Cardiff Half Marathon 2017 – What a day!
It’s that time of year again when 20,000 people take to the streets of Cardiff to tackle the Cardiff Half Marathon and as usual it did not disappoint!
As many of you know in recent years I have not only switched from playing rugby to becoming a runner but I coach a fair few runners and own The Running Community so for me, any race in which both my clients and I are taking part in is extra special (and extra pressure!).
Cardiff Half Marathon 2017 – the biggest race in Welsh history and the third biggest race in the U.K! (Can you tell me which 2 races are bigger?)
With talks of a weather warning for wind and rain being put in place for the race it was amazing to see just how incredible the running conditions were – if anything I’d say I was too hot, anybody agree?
The public, organisation and race itself did not disappoint and as usual the streets were lined with people cheering on the many runners. All shapes, sizes, speeds and costumes (some great fancy dress) tackled 13.1 miles of Cardiff’s streets for run, to race, for charity and to prove that they can!
Highlights of some of my amazing clients
Smashed her PB, flew in with a time of 1:36 and completed her first of FIVE half marathons in five consecutive weekends raising money for charity (some of which are very close to my heart).
Katie will be coming out with me to Valencia in 7 weeks time to tackle the marathon and smashed her half marathon PB by 3 minutes!
Running only her second EVER half marathon and smashing her PB by over 6 minutes! Finished the race looking so happy and strong and made us all very proud and happy as always!
The face of the results page. The nicest bloke you’ll ever meet. The strongest character you’ll ever come across and if you know him, you love him. He has run 5k every day in September to raise money for Headway in Cardiff and finished his challenge with a first class half marathon performance. Matt, from everyone, we LOVE YOU!
And on a personal note
The only one who didn’t get a PB or live up to the standards I had set myself, but it happens, I know why, and it still puts me on track for a good run out in Valencia in just under 7 weeks time! The main thing for me was seeing my clients do well and they all did fantastic!
So, all in all, an amazing day out with an amazing bunch of runners. I could spend all day mentioning friends, family, clients, and other runners who all did incredible but you know who you are.
Whatever the reason you ran yesterday you should all be proud of yourselves and all continue to enjoy such an amazing sport.
Thank you to all the volunteers who give up their time to make the day run smoothly – we all very much appreciate what you do.
And if you’d like to get more involved with us, run your first ever 5k, break a personal best or just grab yourself some free information to help you with your running then have a look at The Running Community Website.
